Historical Capul Island

This island that sits in the middle of the San Bernardino Strait was originally named Abak after the name of the chieftain of a group of people that migrated from the south. These migrants brought with them one of the eight rarest dialects in the country. The island is now called Capul from the word Acapulco. During the Spanish era, it became a frequent stop-over for galleons that came in and out of the Philippines during the Acapulco Trade.

About Capul

Capul is one of 24 municipalities of Northern Samar. It is an island municipality situated off the western tip of the province. It is a 5th class municipality that has a land area of 35 sq. km. or 3,350.4101 hectares. It is shaped like a grain of rice with length measuring approximately 14 kms. and 5 kms in its widest section. It is bounded by the island of San Antonio and the town of Allen on the east. The latter is located in the mainland of Northern Samar. To the west are Naranjo Island and Naranjo Pass and to the south is Samar Sea. To the north is the San Bernardino Strait, considered one of the most treacherous waters in the Philippine archipelago.

Capul Island Lighthouse is a lighthouse on Titoog Point in San Luis on the northern tip of Capul Island, Northern Samar in the Philippines. It marks the western entrance to the San Bernardino Strait coming in from Ticao Pass.

Construction on the lighthouse was started on October 1893 and it was first lit on December 1896 while the station was still partially complete. Work was suspended a month before on November 1896 on the onset of the Philippine Revolution.

The Capul Island Lighthouse together with the Batag Island Lighthouse were declared provincial historical landmarks by the province of Northern Samar in October 2008.

Our Picture trip at Buri Baras Beach in Catbalogan

A lazy Sunday, me and my friends on a beach trip, we decided to go to buri beach instead of the traditional Guinsorangan beach in Catbalogan. We first cook food go to the grocery to buy some liquor and ride a multi cab on the city terminal, the travel took about 10-15 minutes, then we experience rough roads as we are near to the destination. After riding a multicab we walked on a narrow-muddy road to the beach. After days of non stop rain the Sun finally came out. Then with my cybershot I took some pictures.

Catbalogan Buri Baras Beach

Welcome to one of the beach resort in Catbalogan, Buri Baras beach. It is located in Barangay Estaka, Catbalogan, Samar. It took about approximately 15 minutes travel from Catbalogan to Buri, and about 15 minutes walking distance to the beach resort
